Cochrane residents enjoy a reality check

The adventurous residents in our Cochrane Care Home had a fantastic time lately as they scaled hundred-metre peaks and hurled down hills at the rate of noughts...or at least they might have felt like they did.

In a recent study, researchers found that exposing people with dementia to virtual reality environments helped them recall old memories, reduced aggression and improved their interactions with caregivers.

It did that by offering new stimuli that they could otherwise not attain due to illness or inaccessibility.

So, 'virtually' taking a walk on the beach, relaxing at the park, playing sports...or riding a rollercoaster in our residents' case...can be therapeutic and have a positive impact on their wellbeing.
